Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the Mewmori mobile application (“App”, “we”) handles your information. By using the App, you agree to the terms below.
1. The short version
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for, and we never ask for your name or email.
- Your vocabulary and progress are yours. They live on your device and in your own private iCloud, which we cannot access.
- What leaves your device: words you ask the App to translate (sent to our server and our AI provider), anonymous usage statistics, what you play in online duels, and — only in the free version, only if you choose to watch one — data needed to show a rewarded ad.
- No tracking permission. The App never asks for App Tracking Transparency, so nobody receives your advertising identifier (IDFA).
2. Information we process
Words and phrases you submit for translation. When you add a word, the text you entered, the language pair, and the result format are sent over HTTPS to our server-side proxy (hosted on Cloudflare Workers), which forwards the text to Anthropic (the Claude AI model) to generate the translation and learner notes. We do not store your texts on our servers; the proxy holds no database of your entries.
Anonymous device identifier and quotas. The App generates a random identifier (UUID) on first launch and keeps it in your device's Keychain, so it stays the same after you reinstall the App; it disappears only if the device is fully erased. It is sent with translation requests solely to enforce usage limits and prevent abuse. It is not linked to you — not to your name, email, Apple ID, or device serial number — and it is never shared with the AI provider. The free version includes 5 AI translations in total; that counter is kept with no expiry, for as long as the service runs. Mewmori Pro includes 200 AI translations a month; that counter is kept for about 40 days. For Pro, our server checks the Apple-signed record of your subscription. To confirm that requests come from the genuine App, our server also uses Apple's App Attest service.
Your vocabulary and learning progress. Saved words, translations, notes, spaced-repetition progress, your streak, collection, duel rank and settings are stored locally on your device. Your words sync through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit); your streak, collection, rank and settings through your iCloud key-value storage, with a copy in your device's Keychain — so they survive a reinstall and follow you to your other devices. We have no access to your iCloud data or your Keychain — Apple manages them under your Apple ID.
Online duels. When you play a duel, you and your friend join a room by its code (or an invite link that carries it). The room runs on our server on Cloudflare and passes between the two players only what the game needs: the words on the duel cards, your moves, rank points and emotes. A room is deleted three hours after its last move at the latest.
Pronunciation audio. The App downloads recorded pronunciations of words from our server. A request contains only the language and a hash of the word — no identifiers.
Anonymous usage statistics. The App sends anonymized usage events to TelemetryDeck: which games you play, how many words you have, language codes, and purchases. The words themselves are never sent, and the events cannot be linked to you. The user identifier the App passes to TelemetryDeck (the RevenueCat one) is hashed on your device by TelemetryDeck's SDK before anything is sent.
Rewarded ads (free version only). Free users can choose to watch a rewarded ad to get an extra box, one a day. Ads are shown by Google AdMob. In the EU and the UK, Google's consent form is shown before any ad. To serve an ad, Google receives your IP address, information about your device, and your interactions with the ad. Because the App does not ask for tracking permission, Google does not receive your advertising identifier (IDFA). Mewmori Pro has no ads.
Purchases and subscriptions. Purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store. Subscription status is managed through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user identifier and the purchase details (product, price and dates). We never see your payment details.
3. What we do NOT do
- No accounts, no email collection, no contact upload.
- No App Tracking Transparency request and no access to your advertising identifier (IDFA).
- No selling of data, no marketing trackers, no fingerprinting.
- Your words never go to analytics or to advertising.
- No ads in Mewmori Pro; in the free version, ads appear only when you choose to watch one.
- No crash reporters that send data to third parties.
4. Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | What it receives | Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude) | Generates translations and learner notes | Only the text you submitted and the language pair — no identifiers | anthropic.com/legal/privacy |
| Cloudflare | Hosts our translation proxy, quota counters, duel rooms and pronunciation audio | Standard network metadata (IP address during a request), the anonymous device ID, duel data while a room exists | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Google AdMob | Shows optional rewarded ads in the free version and the EU/UK consent form | IP address, device information, ad interactions — not the IDFA | policies.google.com/privacy, how Google uses data from apps |
| TelemetryDeck | Anonymous usage statistics | Anonymized usage events (games played, word counts, language codes, purchases) with a hashed user ID — never your words | telemetrydeck.com/privacy |
| RevenueCat | Manages subscription status together with Apple | An anonymous app user ID and purchase details | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Apple — App Store | Processes purchases and subscriptions | Payment handled entirely by Apple | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple — iCloud / CloudKit | Syncs your vocabulary and progress across your devices and reinstalls | Your vocabulary and progress, stored in your private iCloud | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple — App Attest | Lets our server confirm that requests come from the genuine App | A device attestation handled by Apple | apple.com/legal/privacy |
5. Notifications and permissions
Study reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device; they require your permission, which you can revoke any time in iOS Settings. The App does not request access to your microphone, camera, photos, contacts, location, or calendar.
6. Data retention and deletion
- On your device: deleted when you delete the App, except the anonymous device ID in the Keychain, which is removed when the device is erased.
- In your iCloud: your vocabulary and progress stay in iCloud after you delete the App, so a reinstall picks up where you left off. To remove them, go to iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Mewmori.
- On our server: translation texts are not stored. The free translation counter is kept with your anonymous device ID with no expiry, for as long as the service runs; the Pro counter is kept for about 40 days. Duel rooms are deleted within three hours of their last move. None of these contain personal content.
- With third parties: TelemetryDeck, Google and RevenueCat keep data under their own policies, linked above.
7. Legal bases and your rights (EU and UK)
We process data on these grounds:
- Performing our service — translations, quotas and abuse prevention, iCloud sync, online duels, pronunciation audio and purchases are what you ask the App to do.
- Consent — for ads in the EU and the UK, given or refused in Google's consent form.
- Legitimate interests — anonymous usage statistics that help us improve the App.
You have the right to access your data, to have it deleted, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights or to change your consent for ads, email tesserly.dev@gmail.com. Most of what the App keeps is on your device and in your own iCloud, where you can delete it yourself (see section 6). You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; changes are published at this address with an updated date. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the new version.
