Privacy Policy
This page explains what happens to your data when you use Inktile, our puzzle app for Android, and the Inktile pages on tesserly.dev. The short version: Inktile is built to work offline, and we do not collect personal data from the app. If anything here is unclear, email tesserly.dev@gmail.com.
1. Who we are
Inktile is made by Tesserly, a two-person independent studio based in Ukraine. Contact for any privacy question: tesserly.dev@gmail.com. We read every message ourselves.
2. The short version
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for, and we never ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- No analytics, no ads, no telemetry. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and it does not send us usage data about how you play.
- Your progress stays on your device. We do not run a server that stores your puzzles, results or settings, so we have no copy of them.
3. What the app stores on your device
To keep your progress, Inktile saves a small amount of data locally on your phone using Android's Jetpack DataStore:
- solved puzzles, times, moves, stars and your daily streak;
- your Journey progress;
- your in-app settings.
This data never leaves your device through us. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in Android settings deletes it.
4. Backups (Android Auto Backup)
Inktile supports Android Auto Backup, so your progress can move with you to a new phone. If backup is turned on in your Android settings, Android may copy the app's local data to the Google account on your device. Google encrypts these backups; on Android 9 and later, on devices with a screen lock, they are end-to-end encrypted with your lock-screen credentials.
The backup is handled entirely by Android and Google under Google's Privacy Policy. We cannot see, read or restore it. You can turn backups off at any time in your phone's settings (usually Settings → System → Backup).
5. Inktile Premium purchases
Inktile Premium is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment and keeps your payment details; we never receive them. To unlock Premium, the app asks Google Play whether your Google account owns it. We do not receive your name, email address or card details from that check.
6. Sharing your results
Share cards (your time, moves and a spoiler-free view of the puzzle) are created on your device. They are only shared when you choose to share them, through the Android share sheet, with the app you pick. What happens next is governed by that app's own privacy policy.
7. This website
- tesserly.dev is a static site. It runs no analytics, no ads and no tracking cookies.
- If you choose a language, the site stores a small
langcookie so it can show the same language next time. It holds nothing else. - Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request logs (including IP address) to serve pages and block abuse (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy).
8. What we never collect
- Location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data.
- Advertising identifiers. Inktile shows no ads and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not sell data and never hand it to data brokers.
9. Children
Inktile is suitable for all ages. Because the app does not collect personal data, it does not collect any from children either.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and Ukrainian law you have the right to access, correct and delete personal data about you. Because we hold no personal data from the app, there is usually nothing for us to hand over or erase: your data lives on your device and, if you use backups, in your Google account, where you control it. You can still email tesserly.dev@gmail.com with any request, and you always have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Ukraine that is the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
11. Changes to this policy
If what the app does with data ever changes, for example if a feature starts needing a server, we will update this page before that version is released and change the date above.
